Profile and background of artist.
Aged
54, a signwriter by trade for 37 years and self employed for 30 years
operating a business specializing in signwriting, spray painting,
graphics and hand painted artwork on utes, vans, buses, trucks,
trailers and racing cars.
A self taught artist out of necessity, as many jobs over the years required hand painted artwork such as product like packs, bottles, faces, animals and pretty well anything else required. This work today is unfortunately from my point of view, done with digital printing and so eliminating the previous opportunities and enjoyment I got from painting these sometimes very challenging projects.
I have however kept the artwork side of things going through painting pictures of racing cars and for two reasons, one as a form of relaxation and two because I have a passion for all forms of motorsport and have done since I was a teenager. Not only that, I was a speedway driver in Compact Speedcars for 25 years and although I no longer drive, I still pit crew on a speedway racing team.
Because of my involvement in racing, I have signwritten endless numbers of racing cars over many years. I was the signwriter for Dick Johnson Racing from 1980 to 1990 as well as quite a few other touring cars during that period. Because of my involvement in speedway, the majority of signwriting on racing cars has obviously been speedway cars, such as sprint cars, midgets, compact speedcars, litre sprintcars and sedans. As well as the racing cars, I have also painted and signwritten many racing car trucks and trailers. I have done work for drivers Todd Wanless, Barry Lawrence, Darren Jensen and Terry Bracken to name a few.
Many of these drivers or team owners have commissioned me to create paintings of their cars over the years to the point, that I now only signwrite racing cars and create paintings of Formula 1, Touring cars, Historical cars, Racing bikes, boats and planes for a living.
Most people seem to appreciate the accuracy I put into my works and this is probably due to my racing experience, reasonable knowledge of the mechanical aspects of a racing car and of any sponsor signage.
I can create works of pretty well any size and can work from a quality photograph or can research my own material. I am happy to take any inquiries and am prepared to tackle any reasonable request.
